ORANGE HUNT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REVIEW
This review summarizes current items of interest and operational aspects of Orange Hunt Elementary School (OHES).
Although a significant remodeling of OHES buildings and grounds is planned, the remodeling has not yet begun and no specific date has been set. Currently, six trailers are utilized as classrooms. These units have no bathrooms or running water. The children must go to the main building to use the facilities.
The school serves approximately 900 students. Seven buses transport 435 students, 114 students use the kiss and ride stop, and 350 walk to school. The instructional staff includes 36 classroom teachers, 22 special/resource teachers, 11 instructional assistants, three counselors and two principals. Other key elements include parent volunteers, the custodians and cafeteria staff. There is also a very active PTA.
Two crossing guards are posted. One is located at the intersection of Sydenstricker Road and Huntsman Boulevard, and the other is located at Spur Road and Rockefeller. The crossing guards are employed by the Fairfax County Police Department.
The School Age Child Care Program (SACC) provides year round professional care for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. For information concerning SACC, call (703) 449-8989.
Orange Hunt Elementary is a German partial immersion school. The German immersion is available in all grades excluding kindergarten. The students in this program receive their health, science and math instruction in German. One half of the day is taught in German, the other half in English.
